Stored XSS in Kubio AI Page Builder WordPress Plugin

Description

The Kubio AI Page Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'comment (review body)' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.9.4 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Successful exploitation requires the attacker's review containing the payload to be approved, either automatically (due to a previously approved review from the same account) or manually by an administrator, and the active single-product template must use a Kubio-rendered wp:post-content block.

Executive Summary

The Kubio AI Page Builder plugin for WordPress has a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability due to improper input sanitization and output escaping in the comment parameter. This allows authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts into pages. The scripts execute when users view the affected pages.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability can be detected by checking for unauthorized JavaScript code in WordPress comments or pages using the Kubio AI Page Builder. Inspect page source for suspicious scripts in review bodies. Review WordPress comment moderation logs for unapproved comments containing payloads.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal user sessions, redirect users to malicious sites, or perform actions on their behalf. This requires the attacker's review to be approved and the use of a Kubio-rendered wp:post-content block in the template.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to user data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Organizations may face compliance penalties if user data is compromised through this exploit.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Kubio AI Page Builder plugin to the latest version beyond 2.9.4 to address the vulnerability. Review and approve comments manually to prevent malicious scripts from being published. Disable subscriber-level access if not required to reduce attack surface.
