ThreadX Module Manager Memory Allocation Overflow

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-118052, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-11-02

Last updated on: 2026-11-02

Assigner: Eclipse Foundation

Description

In Eclipse ThreadX versions 6.0.1 through 6.5.2.202603, the Module Manager loaders return an overflow error without releasing the Module Manager mutex when a module preamble declares a data or stack size that overflows the allocation arithmetic. Loading such an image blocks every later module load, start, stop and unload from other threads until the system is reset.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects Eclipse ThreadX versions 6.0.1 through 6.5.2.202603. When a module preamble declares a data or stack size that overflows the allocation arithmetic, the Module Manager loaders return an overflow error without releasing the Module Manager mutex. This blocks all subsequent module operations (load, start, stop, unload) from other threads until the system is reset.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability can cause a denial of service by preventing any new module operations after a malformed module is loaded. This disrupts normal system functionality and requires a system reset to recover, potentially leading to downtime and operational disruption.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Eclipse ThreadX to a version beyond 6.5.2.202603 to fix the Module Manager overflow issue. Avoid loading modules with data or stack sizes that could cause arithmetic overflows.
