Description

The Form Maker by 10Web – Mobile-Friendly Drag & Drop Contact Form Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'wdform_<field_id>_element<form_id> (payload) + disabled_fields<form_id> (pivot)' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.15.50 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This requires the targeted form to contain a File Upload field, as the attacker must suppress that field's storage row via the disabled_fields parameter to shift a controlled text-field value into the positional slot where escaping is skipped; execution occurs when an administrator opens the Submissions page for the affected form.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the Form Maker by 10Web WordPress plugin. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts into web pages by exploiting insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the 'wdform_<field_id>_element<form_id>' and 'disabled_fields<form_id>' parameters. The attack requires a form with a File Upload field, where the attacker suppresses that field to shift a controlled text-field value into an unescaped position.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress installations for the Form Maker by 10Web plugin versions up to 1.15.50. Inspect form submissions for unusual payloads in parameters like wdform_<field_id>_element<form_id> or disabled_fields<form_id>. Review admin Submissions pages for unexpected scripts.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to execute arbitrary web scripts in pages viewed by users, including administrators. This could lead to unauthorized actions on the website, theft of sensitive data, or further compromise of the WordPress site. Users accessing infected pages may have their sessions hijacked or be redirected to malicious sites.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, compromising personal or sensitive data processed by the forms. For GDPR, this may result in unauthorized data exposure, violating principles of data protection and user consent. For HIPAA, it could expose protected health information, leading to compliance violations and legal penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Form Maker by 10Web plugin to the latest version beyond 1.15.50. If an update is unavailable, disable the plugin immediately. Scan WordPress sites for signs of exploitation and remove any malicious scripts from forms or submissions.
