Executive Summary

This is an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) vulnerability in the Premium Packages WordPress plugin before version 7.3.1. It allows any authenticated user to claim and take ownership of guest orders by providing only the order identifier, without verifying if they are the original buyer. This grants access to the buyer's billing details and purchased files.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Premium Packages plugin version is below 7.3.1. Logs may show unauthorized order claims or access to billing details. Review WordPress admin access logs for suspicious activities related to order management.

Impact Analysis

If you are a user of this plugin, an attacker could access your billing information and download files you purchased. As an authenticated user, you could also exploit this to take over orders not belonging to you, leading to privacy breaches and unauthorized access to sensitive data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized access to personal and billing data. GDPR requires protection of personal data, while HIPAA mandates safeguarding protected health information. A breach could result in legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Premium Packages plugin to version 7.3.1 or later immediately. Disable guest order functionality if not required. Monitor for unauthorized order claims and restrict user roles with order access.
