Executive Summary

This is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the All-in-One Video Gallery WordPress plugin before version 5.0.0. It occurs because the plugin does not properly validate or escape certain shortcode attributes before displaying them in posts or pages. Attackers with contributor-level access or higher can exploit this to inject malicious scripts.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the All-in-One Video Gallery plugin. If it is below 5.0.0, the system is vulnerable. Use WordPress admin panel or run: wp plugin list | grep all-in-one-video-gallery in the WordPress directory.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could inject malicious scripts into your WordPress site, potentially stealing user data, session cookies, or redirecting visitors to harmful sites. This could compromise user accounts, damage site reputation, and lead to further attacks if the injected scripts are used to escalate privileges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, which may violate GDPR if personal data is exposed, or HIPAA if protected health information is compromised. Non-compliance could result in legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage for organizations handling sensitive data.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the All-in-One Video Gallery plugin to version 5.0.0 or later immediately. Remove or restrict contributor-level access to untrusted users until the update is applied.
