Description

The Appointment Booking Plugin – LatePoint | Calendar & Scheduling for WordPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'customer[email] (inside params)' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 5.7.6 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. An unauthenticated visitor can exploit this by registering as a LatePoint customer via the public booking form β€” receiving an active customer session with no WordPress account β€” and then submitting a quoted local-part email address containing an HTML payload (e.g. a tag with no spaces) that passes FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL but is stored and rendered unescaped.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the Appointment Booking Plugin for WordPress. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via the customer email parameter due to poor input sanitization and output escaping. The injected scripts execute when users access affected pages.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress sites using the Appointment Booking Plugin – LatePoint versions up to 5.7.6. Inspect customer email fields in the plugin's database for stored XSS payloads. Monitor for unexpected script execution in booking forms or customer pages.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal user sessions, deface websites, or redirect visitors to malicious sites. Since the plugin allows unauthenticated customer registration, anyone can exploit this without a WordPress account. The attack requires tricking users into visiting a compromised page.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy). Stored XSS may expose user data or session tokens, resulting in non-compliance with privacy requirements and potential legal penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Appointment Booking Plugin – LatePoint to the latest version beyond 5.7.6. Disable the plugin temporarily if an update is unavailable. Implement input sanitization for email fields and escape output in WordPress.
