MongoDB Node.js Driver Connection Pool Data Leak

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-119179, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-11-03

Last updated on: 2026-11-03

Assigner: MongoDB, Inc.

Description

A flaw in the connection management layer of the MongoDB Node.js driver can leave a pooled network connection in the pool for reuse while data from an earlier operation is still outstanding on it. In applications that enable an optional client-side operation timeout, an unauthenticated party that can send ordinary requests to the application may cause database replies to be paired with the wrong requests. This may result in unintended disclosure of other users' records, incorrect operation results being returned, and failures of legitimate requests.

CWE ID Description
CWE-226 The product releases a resource such as memory or a file so that it can be made available for reuse, but it does not clear or "zeroize" the information contained in the resource before the product performs a critical state transition or makes the resource available for reuse by other entities.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a flaw in the connection management layer of the MongoDB Node.js driver. It allows a pooled network connection to be reused while data from a previous operation is still pending. When an optional client-side operation timeout is enabled, an attacker can send requests that cause database replies to be incorrectly paired with wrong requests. This may lead to unauthorized disclosure of other users' records, incorrect operation results, or failures of legitimate requests.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can impact you by exposing sensitive data to unauthorized parties. It may cause incorrect or incomplete responses from the database, leading to data leaks or operational failures. Applications relying on the MongoDB Node.js driver with client-side timeouts enabled are particularly at risk.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to violations of GDPR or HIPAA by exposing personal or health data to unauthorized parties. Incorrect data pairing may result in unauthorized access to sensitive records, which is a direct breach of compliance requirements for data protection and privacy.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the MongoDB Node.js driver to the latest version that addresses this flaw. Disable client-side operation timeout if enabled. Monitor network connections for mismatched replies or unexpected behavior.
