Description

Improper release of expired privileged access checkouts in the PAM scheduled check-in task in Devolutions Server 2025.3.2.0 through 2026.2.22.0 allows an authenticated user with checkout rights on a PAM account to retain access to that account on the target system after the checkout expires via a backlog of 21 or more newer active checkouts that prevents the expired checkout from being checked in and its password from being rotated.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves improper handling of expired privileged access checkouts in Devolutions Server versions 2025.3.2.0 through 2026.2.22.0. An authenticated user with checkout rights can retain access to a PAM account even after the checkout expires by creating a backlog of 21 or more newer active checkouts. This prevents the expired checkout from being checked in and its password from being rotated.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows an attacker to maintain unauthorized access to privileged accounts beyond the intended expiration period. This could lead to prolonged unauthorized control over systems, data breaches, or further exploitation of network resources.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with regulations requiring strict access control and timely revocation of privileges, such as GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information). Unauthorized prolonged access may result in violations of these standards.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Devolutions Server to a version that fixes the improper release of expired privileged access checkouts. Review and reduce the number of active checkouts per account to prevent backlog issues. Monitor PAM account access logs for unauthorized retention of expired checkouts.
