Description

Munshi (by Petpooja) before 2026-07-28 contained a broken object level authorization vulnerability that allows authenticated sub-users to delete invoices belonging to the tenant owner by exploiting the DELETE /api/invoice/{invoice_id} and POST /api/invoices/bulk-delete endpoints, which only verify tenant membership without enforcing object-level ownership or permission checks. Attackers can invoke single or bulk deletion requests with arbitrary invoice identifiers to delete invoices they do not own, resulting in unauthorized data loss.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a broken object level authorization issue in Munshi (by Petpooja) before 2026-07-28. It allows authenticated sub-users to delete invoices belonging to the tenant owner by exploiting specific API endpoints. The DELETE /api/invoice/{invoice_id} and POST /api/invoices/bulk-delete endpoints only verify tenant membership without checking object-level ownership or permissions. This enables attackers to delete invoices they do not own through single or bulk deletion requests, causing unauthorized data loss.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor API logs for unusual DELETE or POST bulk-delete requests targeting /api/invoice/{invoice_id} or /api/invoices/bulk-delete endpoints. Check for requests from authenticated sub-users attempting to delete invoices not owned by them. Review access logs for bulk operations with arbitrary invoice IDs.

Impact Analysis

If you are a user of Munshi software, this vulnerability could allow unauthorized individuals with sub-user access to delete critical invoices belonging to the tenant owner. This could lead to financial losses, disrupted business operations, and loss of important records. The impact is higher for businesses relying on accurate invoice data for compliance or audits.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized deletion of sensitive invoice data, potentially violating compliance requirements under GDPR or HIPAA. GDPR mandates data integrity and protection, while HIPAA requires safeguarding protected health information. Unauthorized deletion of such data could result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage due to non-compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Munshi to the latest version released after 2026-07-28. Implement strict object-level authorization checks to ensure users can only delete invoices they own. Disable bulk-delete endpoints if not required. Review and restrict sub-user permissions to prevent unauthorized actions.
