Description

The GetPaid plugin for WordPress before 2.8.63 contains an improper input validation vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass payment processing by submitting a negative item quantity on a public payment form. Attackers can exploit the unchecked quantity value in process_item() to produce a negative line subtotal that reduces the invoice total to zero, causing process_free_payment() to mark the invoice as paid without any actual gateway charge.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the GetPaid WordPress plugin before version 2.8.63 allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass payment processing by submitting a negative item quantity on a public payment form. The plugin fails to validate input properly, letting attackers reduce the invoice total to zero without making an actual payment.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress sites running GetPaid plugin versions before 2.8.63. Inspect payment form submissions for negative quantity values in HTTP requests. Review server logs for suspicious invoice total manipulations.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could exploit this to get free products or services by manipulating invoice totals. Businesses using the vulnerable plugin may lose revenue as payments are bypassed without gateway charges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to payment data by allowing attackers to bypass payment processing without actual transactions. This may violate GDPR's data protection principles if personal or payment data is exposed, and HIPAA's security rules if healthcare-related payments are involved.

Mitigation Strategies

Update GetPaid plugin to version 2.8.63 or later immediately. Implement server-side input validation to reject negative quantities. Disable public payment forms if not essential.
