Description

Content Egg plugin for WordPress before 12.1.0 contains a broken access control vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to retrieve Content Egg product data from unpublished posts by calling the REST route POST /wp-json/content-egg/v1/render-blocks, whose permission_check() improperly returns true when no X-WP-Nonce header is supplied. Attackers can supply the post_id and module id of a draft, pending, scheduled, or private post to handle_render(), which lacks a publish-status check, to disclose product titles, destination and affiliate URLs, merchant or domain information, and descriptions.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-119751 is a broken access control vulnerability in the Content Egg WordPress plugin before version 12.1.0. It allows unauthenticated attackers to retrieve sensitive product data from unpublished posts by exploiting a flawed REST route POST /wp-json/content-egg/v1/render-blocks. The permission_check() function incorrectly grants access without requiring an X-WP-Nonce header, and handle_render() lacks a publish-status check.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress sites using Content Egg plugin versions before 12.1.0. Send a POST request to /wp-json/content-egg/v1/render-blocks with post_id and module id parameters for unpublished posts. If sensitive data is returned without authentication, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

Attackers can access unpublished post data including product titles, affiliate URLs, merchant details, and descriptions. This could lead to data leaks, competitive espionage, or misuse of affiliate links. Users of the plugin may face reputational damage or loss of sensitive business information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Content Egg plugin to version 12.1.0 or later immediately. Review and restrict access to unpublished post data. Monitor for unauthorized access attempts to the REST endpoint.
