psqlODBC Cursor Row Identification SQL Injection

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-120065, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-11-02

Last updated on: 2026-11-02

Assigner: PostgreSQL

Description

For an updatable cursor over a table without OIDs that has an auto-increment int4 column, psqlODBC uses that column to identify rows. It places the column's name, as reported by the server, between double quotes in its keyset queries and in the WHERE clause of its positioned SELECT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements, without doubling any double quote in the name. A column name that contains a double quote therefore changes the SQL that the driver runs with the application's privileges, including which rows a positioned UPDATE or DELETE affects. Any database user who can create a table that the application reads with an updatable cursor can choose such a name, and so can a server not trusted under current SSL settings. Versions before psqlODBC 18.00.0006 are affected.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects psqlODBC, a driver for PostgreSQL. When using an updatable cursor on a table without OIDs but with an auto-increment int4 column, the driver uses that column to identify rows. If the column name contains a double quote, it can alter the SQL queries executed by the application, potentially allowing unauthorized row updates or deletions.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the version of psqlODBC installed on your system. Run: psqlodbc --version. If the version is before 18.00.0006, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with the ability to create tables or control a server could exploit this to manipulate data accessed by the application. This could lead to unauthorized changes, data corruption, or privilege escalation, depending on the application's permissions.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade psqlODBC to version 18.00.0006 or later immediately. This fixes the issue with improper handling of double quotes in column names.
