Description

Network-AI from 5.14.0 before 5.15.5 contains a missing authentication vulnerability in the A2AServer class that allows unauthenticated attackers to access task operations when no secret is configured. Attackers can send JSON-RPC requests to tasks/send, tasks/get, and tasks/cancel without a Bearer token to execute tasks, read results, and cancel tasks.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a missing authentication flaw in Network-AI versions 5.14.0 to 5.15.4. When no secret is configured, the A2AServer component allows unauthenticated attackers to send JSON-RPC requests to endpoints like tasks/send, tasks/get, and tasks/cancel without a Bearer token. This enables attackers to execute tasks, read results, and cancel tasks remotely.

Detection Guidance

Check if Network-AI is running on your system by inspecting running processes for 'Network-AI' or 'A2AServer'. Verify if the service is listening on HTTP ports (e.g., 80, 8080) without authentication. Use curl to test endpoints like tasks/send, tasks/get, or tasks/cancel without a Bearer token. If responses are received, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers can gain control over task operations, leading to unauthorized execution of tasks, data theft from task results, or disruption of services by canceling tasks. This could result in data breaches, service outages, or unauthorized system access depending on the tasks being performed.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by enabling unauthorized access to sensitive data through unauthenticated task operations. GDPR requires strict access controls and data protection, while HIPAA mandates safeguards for protected health information. Exploitation could result in data breaches, violating these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Network-AI to version 5.15.5 or later immediately. If upgrading is not possible, enforce mandatory secret authentication by configuring a secret key in the A2AServer settings. Ensure the server fails closed if no secret is provided. Block external access to the vulnerable endpoints via firewall rules until patched.
