Description

The Form Maker by 10Web – Mobile-Friendly Drag & Drop Contact Form Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'wdform_<n>_element<id> (Hidden Input field, name = user-defined, e.g. hidden_probe)' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.15.50 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires an administrator to open the Submissions screen and click the Show-on-Map link associated with the poisoned entry, at which point the attacker-controlled field_id value is echoed unescaped into a single-quoted JavaScript string in the FormMakerEditCountryinPopup popup β€” a step whose nonce and capability checks are automatically satisfied by the administrator's own session and the freshly minted fm_ajax_nonce embedded in the link.

Executive Summary

This is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Form Maker by 10Web WordPress plugin. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via a hidden input field parameter due to poor input sanitization and output escaping. The flaw exists in versions up to 1.15.50.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the Form Maker by 10Web plugin versions up to 1.15.50. Check for suspicious hidden input fields named user-defined (e.g., hidden_probe) in forms. Review server logs for unusual JavaScript injection attempts or unauthorized form submissions.

Impact Analysis

Attackers can execute arbitrary web scripts when an administrator accesses an infected page. This could lead to unauthorized actions, data theft, or session hijacking if the injected script runs in the administrator's browser context.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality requirements. For HIPAA, it may risk protected health information exposure if exploited in healthcare environments.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Form Maker by 10Web plugin to the latest version beyond 1.15.50. Remove any unknown or suspicious hidden input fields from forms. Monitor admin submissions for unexpected entries and restrict unauthenticated form submissions.
