Executive Summary

This is an Insertion of Sensitive Information into Log File vulnerability (CWE-532) in AxxonSoft AxxonNet before version 3.25.0. A local attacker with read access to log files or support packages can extract plaintext passwords for LDAP directory service accounts from WARNING-level log entries containing serialized user synchronization data.

Detection Guidance

Check ARP Agent log files or support packages for WARNING-level entries containing serialized user synchronization data. Search for plaintext LDAP directory service account passwords in logs using commands like 'grep -i warning /path/to/logs' or 'findstr /s /i warning C:\path\to\logs\*.log' on Windows.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain unauthorized access to sensitive systems using the compromised LDAP credentials. This may lead to data breaches, unauthorized modifications, or service disruptions. The impact is limited to systems using the affected AxxonNet versions with exposed log files.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements by exposing sensitive authentication data in logs. GDPR may require breach notification if personal data is involved. HIPAA could be impacted if protected health information is accessible. Organizations must ensure proper log protection and access controls to maintain compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade AxxonSoft AxxonNet to version 3.25.0 or later. Restrict read access to ARP Agent log files and support packages. Review and sanitize log entries to avoid logging sensitive information like passwords.
