Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a buffer overflow in PDFium, which is the PDF rendering engine used in Google Chrome. A buffer overflow occurs when a program writes more data to a buffer than it can hold, causing it to overflow into adjacent memory. In this case, a remote attacker could exploit this by crafting a specially designed PDF file to trigger the overflow and execute arbitrary code within the Chrome sandbox.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your device by tricking you into opening a malicious PDF file. Since the code runs inside Chrome's sandbox, it may be limited in what it can do, but it could still lead to data theft, installation of malware, or unauthorized access to your system.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 157.0.8103.38 or later to address the buffer overflow vulnerability in PDFium.
