CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This is a use-after-free vulnerability in Google Chrome's DOM component. It occurs when a program tries to use memory that has already been freed, potentially allowing a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code within the browser's sandbox. The vulnerability is triggered by a specially crafted HTML page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome versions prior to 157.0.8103.38. To detect it, check your Chrome version by running chrome://version/ in the browser. If your version is below 157.0.8103.38, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to run malicious code on your device through a malicious webpage. This could lead to data theft, installation of malware, or unauthorized access to your system. The sandbox limits damage but does not fully prevent exploitation.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 157.0.8103.38 or later immediately. This can be done via the browser's built-in update mechanism or by downloading the latest version from Google's official site.
