Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect authorization issue in Google Chrome's Extensions feature. It allows a remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process to bypass sandboxing and execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox. This is done by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted HTML page.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your computer, potentially stealing data, installing malware, or taking control of your system. Since it bypasses Chrome's sandbox, it is more dangerous than typical web-based attacks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy) requirements. Organizations using affected Chrome versions may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 157.0.8103.38 or later to address the vulnerability.
