Description

FreeRDP before 3.32.2 contains a use-after-free in the urbdrc USB redirection channel because FindChannelById returns a channel pointer without a reference and the control-channel close path does not take the device manager's loading_lock. A malicious RDP server can send a control-channel CLOSE_REQUEST while the client announces a USB device, freeing the channel before the announcement thread reads channel->Write and crashing the client.

Executive Summary

FreeRDP before version 3.32.2 has a use-after-free vulnerability in the USB redirection channel. The issue occurs because the function FindChannelById returns a channel pointer without a reference, and the control-channel close path does not use the device manager's loading_lock. A malicious RDP server can exploit this by sending a control-channel CLOSE_REQUEST while a USB device is being announced, freeing the channel before the announcement thread reads channel->Write, which crashes the client.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow a malicious RDP server to crash the FreeRDP client application. If exploited, it may lead to denial-of-service conditions, disrupting remote desktop sessions and potentially causing data loss or interrupted workflows.

Mitigation Strategies

Update FreeRDP to version 3.32.2 or later to address the use-after-free vulnerability in the urbdrc USB redirection channel.
