Parse Server MongoDB Field Type Validation Bypass via Null Dot Notation

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-121415, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Assigner: VulnCheck

Description

Parse Server before 8.6.111 and 9.0.0 before 9.10.6-alpha.3 on MongoDB skips field type validation for null-valued dot notation keys, allowing sub-documents to be written beneath Pointer, Number, String, Date, or Boolean fields. Any client with write access, including unauthenticated clients where public writes are permitted, can corrupt field values, make objects unreadable via internal date fields, or break atomic operations on number fields.

Executive Summary

Parse Server versions before 8.6.111 and 9.0.0 before 9.10.6-alpha.3 on MongoDB have a flaw where field type validation is skipped for null-valued dot notation keys. This allows attackers with write access to corrupt field values, make objects unreadable by targeting internal date fields, or disrupt atomic operations on number fields.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated or authorized users with write access can corrupt data, making objects unreadable or breaking operations. This could lead to data loss, application crashes, or unauthorized modifications if public writes are enabled.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data corruption or loss, violating integrity requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Unauthorized modifications may also breach confidentiality or availability principles, potentially resulting in compliance violations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Parse Server to version 8.6.111 or later for the 8.x branch, or to 9.10.6-alpha.3 or later for the 9.x branch to address the field type validation issue.
