Description

The QODE Wishlist for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'qode_wishlist_for_woocommerce_guests_items' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.2.9 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This is exploitable by guests because the required wp_rest nonce is publicly emitted to unauthenticated visitors on the /wishlist/ page, and the attacker controls the transient key, meaning the payload is stored site-wide and only requires a victim to open a crafted share URL and click the injected title link. Successful exploitation additionally requires an action by an administrator β€” the attacker cannot trigger the vulnerability on their own.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the QODE Wishlist for WooCommerce WordPress plugin. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via the 'qode_wishlist_for_woocommerce_guests_items' parameter due to poor input sanitization and output escaping. The scripts execute when users visit an infected page. Attackers exploit this by crafting a share URL with a malicious payload, which is stored site-wide. A victim only needs to open the URL and click a link for the attack to succeed.

Detection Guidance

Check for the QODE Wishlist for WooCommerce plugin versions up to 1.2.9. Inspect WordPress sites for stored XSS payloads in the 'qode_wishlist_for_woocommerce_guests_items' parameter. Review server logs for unusual requests to /wishlist/ pages with crafted URLs.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can impact you by allowing attackers to steal sensitive user data, such as cookies or session tokens, through the injected scripts. It may also enable attackers to perform actions on your behalf, deface your website, or redirect users to malicious sites. Since the payload is stored site-wide, any visitor to your site could be affected if they interact with the injected content.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing user data to unauthorized parties. GDPR requires protecting personal data, and a breach could result in fines. HIPAA mandates safeguarding health information, and this flaw could compromise that security. Organizations may face legal penalties and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the QODE Wishlist for WooCommerce plugin to the latest version. If no update is available, disable the plugin temporarily. Implement input sanitization for the vulnerable parameter and ensure output escaping is applied. Monitor for suspicious activity in admin logs.
