Description

Pay with Vipps and MobilePay for WooCommerce (woo-vipps) before 6.4.1 contains an improper cryptographic signature verification vulnerability in the recurring-payment webhook handler that allows unauthenticated attackers to forge webhook requests when no local webhook secret is stored, because the code fails to return on an empty secret and computes an HMAC keyed with an empty string using a loose == comparison instead of hash_equals. Attackers can craft a recurring.agreement-stopped.v1 event with a known agreementId and a matching empty-key signature to cancel a victim's active WooCommerce subscription.

Executive Summary

The vulnerability is in the Pay with Vipps and MobilePay for WooCommerce plugin before version 6.4.1. It involves improper cryptographic signature verification in the recurring-payment webhook handler. Attackers can exploit this by forging webhook requests when no local webhook secret is stored, allowing them to cancel a victim's active WooCommerce subscription by crafting a specific event with a matching empty-key signature.

Detection Guidance

Check WooCommerce logs for recurring-payment webhook events with empty signatures or missing local webhook secrets. Inspect HTTP requests to the webhook endpoint for recurring.agreement-stopped.v1 events with forged signatures.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers can cancel your active WooCommerce subscriptions by sending forged webhook requests. This could disrupt your recurring payment services and potentially cause financial or operational issues if subscriptions are unexpectedly terminated.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade to version 6.4.1 or later of the Pay with Vipps and MobilePay for WooCommerce plugin. Ensure a local webhook secret is configured to prevent empty-key HMAC verification bypass.
