Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a server-side request forgery (SSRF) flaw in DataLinkDC Dinky up to version 1.2.5. It exists in the FlinkWebURITemplateProxyServlet.getNewTargetUri function, where manipulating the _authority argument allows an attacker to forge requests to internal systems. The issue arises from improper input validation in the flink_web Proxy Endpoint component.

Detection Guidance

Check for unusual network requests targeting the FlinkWebURITemplateProxyServlet endpoint. Monitor logs for SSRF attempts in Dinky versions up to 1.2.5. Inspect HTTP requests with suspicious _authority parameters.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to send crafted requests to internal services, potentially accessing sensitive data or internal networks. This could lead to unauthorized data exfiltration, internal service manipulation, or further network compromise. The exploit is remotely initiable and has been publicly disclosed.

Compliance Impact

This SSRF vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or exfiltration, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's security requirements for protected health information. Organizations using affected Dinky versions may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Dinky to version 1.3.0 or later. Disable the vulnerable FlinkWebURITemplateProxyServlet if not needed. Implement network-level restrictions to block unauthorized SSRF requests.
