CWE ID Description
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a SQL injection flaw in the Campcodes Division Regional Athletic Meet Game Result Matrix System up to version 2.1. It exists in the /dipam/check-user.php file where the 'abbr' argument is improperly sanitized, allowing attackers to inject malicious SQL code. The attack can be executed remotely and a public exploit is available.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow attackers to manipulate the database, potentially accessing, modifying, or deleting sensitive data. It may also enable unauthorized administrative access or execution of arbitrary commands on the server. The public availability of an exploit increases the risk of widespread attacks.

Compliance Impact

GDPR requires protection of personal data, while HIPAA mandates safeguards for protected health information. A successful exploit may result in data breaches, triggering legal penalties and regulatory fines.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Campcodes Division Regional Athletic Meet Game Result Matrix System to the latest version. If an update is not available, disable or restrict access to the /dipam/check-user.php file. Review and sanitize all user inputs, particularly the 'abbr' argument, to prevent SQL injection. Monitor network traffic for suspicious database queries or unusual patterns.
