Executive Summary

The vulnerability CVE-2026-123010 affects the @twilio-labs/netlify-okta-auth package up to version 1.0.2. It involves an unverified iss claim in Okta-issued JWT tokens, which could allow improper validation of the token issuer during authentication. This flaw may lead to unauthorized access or open redirect attacks if the oktaUrl is misconfigured.

Detection Guidance

Check for unverified iss claims in Okta-issued JWT tokens by inspecting network traffic for outbound HTTP requests to Okta's JWKS endpoint. Look for tokens with mismatched issuer values or improper validation in logs or debugging output.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to bypass authentication, gain unauthorized access to protected resources, or redirect users to malicious sites. It specifically impacts applications using the affected package for Okta-based authentication in Netlify functions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. It may result in data breaches, non-compliance with access control mandates, and potential legal penalties due to inadequate authentication safeguards.

Mitigation Strategies

Update to the latest version of netlify-okta-auth beyond 1.0.2. Ensure proper validation of the iss claim in Okta tokens and verify the oktaUrl configuration to prevent misconfiguration issues.
