Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects AgentScope versions up to 2.0.11. It involves the function get_current_user_id in src/agentscope/app/deps.py which accepts the X-User-ID HTTP header as a valid user identity without verification. Attackers can remotely impersonate any user by setting this header to a known or guessed user ID, bypassing authentication entirely.

Detection Guidance

Check if the AgentScope service is exposed to untrusted networks by inspecting network bindings. Use curl to test if the X-User-ID header is accepted without validation. Example: curl -H 'X-User-ID: admin@example.com' http://<target>:<port>/<endpoint>. If the response includes data for admin@example.com without authentication, the vulnerability is present.

Impact Analysis

An attacker can impersonate any user to read or modify sensitive data like LLM API keys, agents, session history, knowledge bases, or trigger actions in the victim's context. This includes accessing over 45 REST endpoints exposed by the FastAPI application, potentially leading to full account compromise.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates compliance requirements for data protection and access control. It allows unauthorized access to personal and sensitive data, which could result in violations of GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy) due to insufficient authentication and authorization mechanisms.

Mitigation Strategies

Deploy the service behind an authenticated reverse proxy that injects a verified X-User-ID header and strips untrusted client-supplied headers. Alternatively, bind the service to 127.0.0.1 as a short-term workaround. Avoid exposing the service to untrusted networks until a patch is released.
