Description

OpenAM before 16.1.4 contains a denial of service vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to exhaust server resources by sending serialized Java data without size or structure limits. Attackers can send small crafted requests to remote SDK endpoints, classic login pages, or the administration console to block authentication, session validation and policy decisions.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-123543 is a high-severity denial of service vulnerability in OpenAM, an identity and access management solution. It allows unauthenticated attackers to send small crafted requests containing serialized Java data to vulnerable endpoints without size or structure limits. This exhausts server resources like CPU and memory, disrupting authentication, session validation, and policy decisions.

Detection Guidance

Monitor CPU and memory usage spikes on OpenAM servers, especially on endpoints like remote SDK interfaces, login pages, and the administration console. Check for unusual serialized Java data requests without size limits. Use network traffic analysis tools to detect excessive requests to vulnerable endpoints.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can make all applications relying on OpenAM for authentication inaccessible. Attackers can block authentication processes, session validation, and policy decisions by sending malicious requests to remote SDK endpoints, login pages, or the administration console.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade OpenAM to version 16.1.4 or later to enforce size and structural limits on serialized data. Temporarily restrict network access to vulnerable endpoints, limit request size and rate, deploy multiple OpenAM servers with health checks, and monitor CPU and memory usage for anomalies.
