Executive Summary

CVE-2026-124474 is a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in MRBS (Meeting Room Booking System) versions before 1.12.3. It exists in the error parameter of the view_entry.php file, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via crafted links. The vulnerability arises from improper sanitization of user input, which is then echoed without proper escaping, enabling script execution in the context of an authenticated user's session.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect MRBS installations for versions before 1.12.3. Check the view_entry.php file for improper handling of the error parameter. Use network monitoring tools to detect crafted links with XSS payloads targeting the error parameter. Review server logs for unusual GET requests to view_entry.php with suspicious query strings.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to read CSRF tokens, modify or delete bookings, or perform administrative actions by tricking logged-in users into clicking malicious links. Since MRBS requires login, authenticated users are at risk of having their session compromised, leading to unauthorized changes or data theft.

Compliance Impact

This reflected XSS vulnerability could compromise compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing attackers to access or modify sensitive user data, such as booking details or personal information, through malicious script execution in authenticated sessions. Unauthorized data exposure or alteration violates confidentiality requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade MRBS to version 1.12.3 or later. If upgrading is not possible, apply input sanitization to the error parameter in view_entry.php. Implement a Content Security Policy (CSP) header to mitigate XSS impact. Monitor for unauthorized administrative actions or booking modifications.
