Description

The WP Event Manager WordPress plugin before 3.4.2 does not properly validate ownership or the type of the user-supplied post identifiers processed by one of its frontend forms, allowing any user with a Subscriber account or above to reassign the authorship of arbitrary posts to themselves and to force them to be published. This results in content takeover and in the public disclosure of otherwise private or draft content, and requires the relevant frontend feature to be enabled.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-16304 is an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) vulnerability in the WP Event Manager WordPress plugin before version 3.4.2. It allows users with Subscriber-level access or higher to reassign ownership of any post to themselves and force publication by exploiting improper validation of user-supplied post identifiers in a frontend form.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of WP Event Manager. If it is below 3.4.2, the system is vulnerable. Use WordPress admin panel or run: wp plugin list | grep event-manager in WP-CLI.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can lead to content takeover, allowing attackers to reassign posts to themselves and publish private or draft content publicly. It compromises the integrity of posts and exposes sensitive information if the affected feature is enabled.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing private or draft content publicly. Unauthorized content modification may also breach data integrity and access control requirements in these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update WP Event Manager to version 3.4.2 or later immediately. Disable the vulnerable frontend feature if not needed. Review user roles and restrict Subscriber-level access to trusted users only.
