Description

SuiteCRM is an open-source, enterprise-ready Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software application. Prior to 7.15.2 and 8.10.2, a user-controllable Multi report condition passes parameter_value through unencodeMultienum() and concatenates the result into a SQL WHERE clause. Although securexss() normally entity-encodes quotes, an input prefixed with an XSS payload makes AntiXSS select a processed string instead of the encoded backup, allowing a literal quote to reach the database. A low-privileged user with AOR Reports access can read arbitrary tables through time-based or UNION-based SQL injection and can consume database connections with delay expressions. This issue is fixed in versions 7.15.2 and 8.10.2.

Exploitability

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

SuiteCRM versions before 7.15.2 and 8.10.2 have a SQL injection flaw in the AOR Reports module. A user-controllable report condition passes parameter_value through unencodeMultienum() and inserts it directly into a SQL WHERE clause without proper sanitization. An XSS payload prefix bypasses the securexss() filter, allowing a literal quote to reach the database. This enables low-privileged users with AOR Reports access to perform time-based or UNION-based SQL injection, reading arbitrary tables or consuming database connections.

Detection Guidance

Check SuiteCRM version with: grep -r "version" config.php. If version is below 7.15.2 or 8.10.2, the system is vulnerable. Inspect modules/AOR_Reports/AOR_Report.php for user-controllable Multi report conditions. Monitor database logs for unusual UNION-based or time-based SQL queries targeting arbitrary tables.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with low privileges and AOR Reports access could extract sensitive data from any database table via SQL injection. They could also slow down or crash the database by consuming connections with delay expressions, disrupting normal operations.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive personal or health data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade SuiteCRM to version 7.15.2 or 8.10.2 immediately. If upgrading is not possible, restrict AOR Reports access to trusted users only and disable Multi report conditions. Apply input validation to block XSS payloads prefixed to parameter values. Review and audit database query logs for signs of exploitation.
