Description

SuiteCRM is an open-source, enterprise-ready Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software application. Prior to 7.15.2 and 8.10.2, the REST API v4.1 get_entry_list method is vulnerable to time-based blind SQL injection when an authenticated caller simultaneously bypasses two independent security mechanisms. The advisory does not identify those controls more precisely, so their identities remain unspecified. Successful exploitation can extract sensitive database information. This issue is fixed in versions 7.15.2 and 8.10.2.

Exploitability

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

SuiteCRM versions before 7.15.2 and 8.10.2 have a time-based blind SQL injection flaw in the REST API v4.1 get_entry_list method. An authenticated attacker can bypass two security controls to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the /service/v4_1/rest.php endpoint. This allows extraction of sensitive database information.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for unusual SQL query patterns targeting the /service/v4_1/rest.php endpoint in SuiteCRM. Check for repeated requests with time delays indicating blind SQL injection attempts. Review logs for failed authentication bypass attempts or unauthorized data access patterns.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal sensitive data from the database, modify or delete records, or gain unauthorized access to the CRM system. The impact includes high confidentiality and integrity breaches with limited availability disruption.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or leaks, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Non-compliance risks include legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade SuiteCRM to versions 7.15.2 or 8.10.2 or later. Disable the REST API v4.1 get_entry_list method if not required. Implement strict input validation for API parameters. Review and restrict database user permissions to limit exposure.
