Description

SuiteCRM is an open-source, enterprise-ready Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software application. Prior to 7.15.2 and 8.10.2, the jjwg_Maps map marker endpoint uses the authenticated caller's distance value in the map_markers action without strict numeric validation or parameterization. An authenticated attacker can alter the SQL query, extract database data, modify query results, and consume resources. This issue is fixed in versions 7.15.2 and 8.10.2.

Exploitability

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a SQL injection flaw in SuiteCRM versions 7.15.1 and below, as well as 8.10.1 and below. It exists in the jjwg_Maps map marker endpoint where the distance parameter is inserted into a SQL query without proper validation or parameterization. An authenticated attacker can inject malicious SQL code to extract database data, modify query results, or consume resources.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check SuiteCRM versions for 7.15.1 or below and 8.10.1 or below. Inspect API calls to the jjwg_Maps map marker endpoint for improper distance parameter handling. Look for unusual SQL query patterns or errors in logs indicating potential SQL injection attempts.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exfiltrate sensitive database data through blind SQL injection. Depending on database permissions, they might manipulate data or, in MySQL with FILE privileges, achieve remote code execution via SELECT INTO OUTFILE. The attack requires low privileges and no user interaction, making it highly accessible to authenticated users.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive personal or health data, violating GDPR and HIPAA compliance. GDPR requires protection of personal data, while HIPAA mandates safeguards for protected health information. A breach could result in legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade SuiteCRM to versions 7.15.2 or 8.10.2 or later. Apply the latest security patches from the official SuiteCRM GitHub repository or website. Review and restrict API access permissions to prevent unauthorized module access.
