Path Traversal and Missing Authorization in Apache OFBiz

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-76150, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-11-05

Last updated on: 2026-11-05

Assigner: Apache Software Foundation

Description

Path traversal and missing authorization check in the replaceImageToExistImage service in Apache OFBiz through 24.09.07 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker with only Catalog view permission to overwrite arbitrary files writable by the OFBiz process with JPEG-encoded content via crafted productId, dataResourceNameExist, and dataResourceNameReplace parameters. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a path traversal and missing authorization check in Apache OFBiz versions up to 24.09.07. A remote authenticated attacker with only Catalog view permission can exploit it to overwrite arbitrary files writable by the OFBiz process with JPEG-encoded content by manipulating productId, dataResourceNameExist, and dataResourceNameReplace parameters.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor Apache OFBiz logs for unusual file write operations or path traversal attempts. Check for requests to the replaceImageToExistImage service with crafted productId, dataResourceNameExist, or dataResourceNameReplace parameters. Look for unauthorized access attempts by users with only Catalog view permission.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could overwrite critical system files, leading to denial of service, data corruption, or unauthorized code execution. This could disrupt services, expose sensitive data, or allow further attacks on the system.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Apache OFBiz to version 24.09.08 or later to fix the vulnerability. If upgrading is not possible, restrict access to the replaceImageToExistImage service and enforce stricter authorization checks for file operations.
