CWE ID Description
CWE-1220 The product implements access controls via a policy or other feature with the intention to disable or restrict accesses (reads and/or writes) to assets in a system from untrusted agents. However, implemented access controls lack required granularity, which renders the control policy too broad because it allows accesses from unauthorized agents to the security-sensitive assets.

Executive Summary

This is an improper access control vulnerability in ManageEngine Key Manager Plus versions before 7151. It allows authenticated users with certificate management privileges to modify another user's ACME certificate deployment credentials without proper authorization.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking the version of ManageEngine Key Manager Plus installed on your system. Compare the installed version against 7151. If the version is below 7151, the system is vulnerable. Use the application's interface or check the version file in the installation directory.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to deploy another user's certificates and private keys to a server they control. This may lead to service impersonation or unauthorized certificate-based authentication, potentially compromising secure communications.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized modifications to ACME certificate deployment credentials. Unauthorized access to certificates and private keys may lead to data breaches or impersonation attacks, which are critical violations under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade ManageEngine Key Manager Plus to version 7151 or later. Download the latest upgrade pack from the official ManageEngine website and apply it to all affected instances. Ensure no users have unauthorized access to certificate management privileges during the upgrade process.
