Missing Authorization in Apache OFBiz ProductEvents

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-81734, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-11-05

Last updated on: 2026-11-05

Assigner: Apache Software Foundation

Description

Missing Authorization in ProductEvents in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker holding only catalog view permission to create, modify, or remove arbitrary product, product feature association, and product category association data by directly invoking catalog quick-admin events such as updateProductQuickAdminShipping, causing the servlet to authorize the request against the base view-level permission declared on the request-map while the underlying event methods perform entity-engine writes without checking the catalog update/create permission enforced by equivalent sibling event methods in the same class. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a missing authorization issue in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08. A remote authenticated attacker with only catalog view permission can exploit it to create, modify, or delete product-related data by invoking specific catalog quick-admin events. The servlet incorrectly authorizes requests based on base view-level permissions instead of enforcing stricter catalog update permissions required for these operations.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check Apache OFBiz versions before 24.09.08. Verify if the system allows remote authenticated users with catalog view permission to perform unauthorized product data modifications via quick-admin events like updateProductQuickAdminShipping.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could manipulate product data, including creating unauthorized products, modifying existing ones, or deleting product categories and associations. This could lead to incorrect product listings, pricing errors, or inventory discrepancies. Businesses relying on OFBiz for product management may face operational disruptions or financial losses.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could impact compliance by allowing unauthorized changes to product data, potentially violating integrity requirements in GDPR or HIPAA. If product data includes sensitive information, unauthorized modifications could lead to data breaches or non-compliance with record-keeping regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Apache OFBiz to version 24.09.08 or later immediately to address the missing authorization flaw in ProductEvents.
