Description

SQL Injection in the entity engine's generic performFind service in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on MySQL/MariaDB-backed deployments allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to disclose arbitrary rows from the queried entity by submitting an ignore-case find request (e.g. _ic=Y) with a crafted value, causing SqlJdbcUtil.addValueSingle to inline the EntityFunction-wrapped value directly into the SQL text using ANSI-only single-quote doubling instead of binding it as a parameter, which is insufficient on MySQL/MariaDB because those dialects also honor backslash escapes, letting a backslash-terminated payload break out of the string literal and turn the WHERE clause into a tautology. The default Derby datasource and PostgreSQL are not affected because they do not interpret backslash as an escape character in this context. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This is a SQL injection vulnerability in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on MySQL/MariaDB deployments. It allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to disclose arbitrary rows from a database by submitting a crafted request with an ignore-case parameter (_ic=Y). The attacker exploits how the application handles SQL queries by breaking out of string literals using backslash escapes, turning the WHERE clause into a tautology.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability in Apache OFBiz, check OFBiz logs for suspicious requests containing parameters like _ic=Y or unusual SQL patterns. Use network monitoring tools to inspect HTTP requests for crafted payloads targeting the performFind service. Inspect database query logs for direct SQL execution with inline values instead of parameters.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to read sensitive data from the database, such as user credentials, personal information, or other confidential records. Since no authentication is required, the risk is high for exposed systems. The default Derby and PostgreSQL databases are not affected.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data exposure, violating GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's security requirements for protected health information. Organizations using affected versions may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Apache OFBiz to version 24.09.08 or later to patch the vulnerability. If upgrading is not possible, disable the performFind service or restrict access to trusted networks. Monitor database queries for suspicious activity and apply MySQL/MariaDB hardening to disable backslash escapes if feasible.
