Improper Authorization in Apache OFBiz ContentWorker

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-82894, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Last updated on: 2026-11-05

Assigner: Apache Software Foundation

Description

Improper Authorization in ContentWorker in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to trigger arbitrary OFBiz service invocation with attacker-controlled parameters, resulting in arbitrary file write, arbitrary file deletion, and server-side request forgery, by requesting the public showHelpPublic view against a Content row whose serviceName field an account holding only CONTENTMGR_CREATE or CONTENTMGR_UPDATE has set to an attacker-chosen service, causing ContentWorker.renderContentAsText to resolve the service to invoke from that persisted, client-writable field and build its parameters directly from the live HTTP request map with no allow-list, no ownership check, and no requirement that the caller be authenticated. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an improper authorization issue in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08. A remote unauthenticated attacker can exploit it by triggering arbitrary service invocations with attacker-controlled parameters through the ContentWorker component. This leads to arbitrary file write, file deletion, and server-side request forgery by manipulating the public showHelpPublic view and the Content row's serviceName field.

Detection Guidance

Check Apache OFBiz version for 24.09 before 24.09.08. Inspect ContentWorker service invocations and HTTP requests targeting public showHelpPublic view. Monitor for arbitrary file write/delete or server-side request forgery attempts.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain unauthorized access to sensitive data, modify or delete critical files, or perform actions on behalf of the system. This could disrupt services, compromise data integrity, or enable further attacks like data exfiltration or system takeover.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Apache OFBiz to version 24.09.08 or later immediately. Restrict CONTENTMGR_CREATE and CONTENTMGR_UPDATE permissions. Review and sanitize Content serviceName fields. Monitor for suspicious service invocations.
