Uncontrolled Resource Consumption in Apache OFBiz

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-82904, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-11-05

Last updated on: 2026-11-05

Assigner: Apache Software Foundation

Description

Uncontrolled Resource Consumption in ServiceMultiEventHandler in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08 on all platforms allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to pin a server request thread for an attacker-chosen number of synchronous service dispatches, up to the signed-integer maximum, by submitting a single small HTTP request whose parameter names encode a row count via the "o" suffix used by multi-form submissions, because UtilHttp.getMultiFormRowCount derives that count from the largest such suffix with no upper bound and ServiceMultiEventHandler.invoke then loops that many times calling dispatcher.runSync, with the request-map for getFinAccountTransRunningTotalAndBalances reaching this handler with no authentication or CSRF requirement on a stock deployment. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves uncontrolled resource consumption in Apache OFBiz 24.09 before 24.09.08. A remote unauthenticated attacker can exploit it by sending a small HTTP request with parameter names that encode a row count. This causes the server to pin a request thread for an attacker-chosen number of synchronous service dispatches, potentially up to the maximum signed integer value.

Detection Guidance

Check Apache OFBiz version with: grep -r "version" /path/to/ofbiz/release/notes.txt or /path/to/ofbiz/build.gradle. If version is below 24.09.08, the system is vulnerable. Monitor for unusually high request thread counts or server hangs during multi-form submissions.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can lead to denial-of-service conditions by consuming excessive server resources. It may cause the server to become unresponsive or crash, disrupting normal operations for all users.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Apache OFBiz to version 24.09.08 or later immediately. If upgrading is not possible, restrict access to the vulnerable endpoints via firewall rules or disable multi-form submissions until patched.
