Description

The LiteSpeed Cache plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthenticated disclosure of sensitive WooCommerce customer data in all versions up to, and including, 7.9.1 With Cache REST enabled (the shipped default cache-rest=1), LiteSpeed stores WooCommerce Store API GET responses (/wc/store/v1/cart and /wc/store/v1/checkout) as PUBLIC cache objects and does not vary the cache on the Cart-Token or WooCommerce session. A shopper's personalized cart/checkout response is therefore served to any later, cookie-less and token-less client as an LSCache HIT. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to read another shopper's billing and shipping details (name, company, street address, email, phone), cart contents and totals, and the shopper's live Cart-Token session JWT and nonce (enabling cart/checkout-session hijack), plus order_key on the checkout endpoint.

Executive Summary

The LiteSpeed Cache plugin for WordPress has a flaw where unauthenticated users can access sensitive WooCommerce customer data. When Cache REST is enabled, the plugin stores personalized cart and checkout responses as public cache objects. This means any visitor, even without cookies or tokens, can retrieve another shopper's billing details, cart contents, and session tokens.

Detection Guidance

Check if the LiteSpeed Cache plugin is installed and enabled in WordPress. Verify if the Cache REST API is enabled (cache-rest=1). Inspect cached responses for /wc/store/v1/cart and /wc/store/v1/checkout endpoints to see if they contain sensitive customer data without authentication.

Impact Analysis

Attackers can steal personal data like names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers. They can also hijack shopping sessions using exposed tokens, potentially modifying carts or completing unauthorized purchases. E-commerce sites using this plugin risk customer privacy breaches and financial fraud.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates GDPR due to unauthorized access to personal data and insufficient protection of customer information. It may also breach HIPAA if health-related e-commerce data is exposed. Organizations must address this to avoid legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable the Cache REST API feature in LiteSpeed Cache settings. Update the plugin to the latest version if available. Implement network-level caching restrictions for WooCommerce API endpoints. Monitor cached responses for unauthorized access attempts.
