Description

The VikBooking Hotel Booking Engine & PMS plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via 'guests[][][documents]' Parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.8.17 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This requires the attacker to possess a valid booking sid/ts pair, which can be obtained by making a standard public booking, as the session token needed to satisfy the JSession::checkToken() gate is emitted in the publicly accessible pre-checkin form.

Executive Summary

This is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the VikBooking Hotel Booking Engine & PMS WordPress plugin. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via the 'guests[][][documents]' parameter due to poor input sanitization and output escaping. The scripts execute when users access infected pages.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires checking WordPress installations with the VikBooking plugin versions up to 1.8.17. Inspect plugin files for unsanitized input handling in the 'guests[][][documents]' parameter. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

Attackers can steal user sessions, redirect to malicious sites, or deface pages. Since it requires a valid booking sid/ts pair, attackers first need to make a standard public booking to obtain the session token. This affects all users interacting with the plugin.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to user data, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's security requirements. It may result in data breaches, non-compliance penalties, and loss of trust due to compromised user information.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the VikBooking Hotel Booking Engine & PMS plugin to the latest version beyond 1.8.17. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin until a patch is applied. Monitor for suspicious activity in booking forms.
