Executive Summary

IRISPowerscan has an insecure default setup where the built-in installation account has high privileges and a password that is easy to guess. This allows an attacker to log in without authentication and access sensitive features of the application.

Detection Guidance

Check for IRISPowerscan installations with default credentials. Inspect network traffic for unauthenticated access attempts to privileged application functionality. Verify if the built-in installation account has elevated privileges with a predictable password.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gain unauthorized access to the application, potentially stealing data, modifying settings, or disrupting operations. The high CVSS score (7.2) indicates significant risk.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy) requirements. Organizations may face legal penalties or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Change the default password of the built-in installation account to a strong, unique password. Remove elevated privileges from the default account if not required. Apply vendor patches or updates if available. Monitor for unauthorized access attempts.
