CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a use-after-free issue in the Bluetooth component of Google Chrome on Android. It occurs when a program tries to use memory that has already been freed, potentially leading to crashes or arbitrary code execution. An attacker who compromised the renderer process could exploit this via a crafted HTML page to escape the sandbox.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome on Android versions prior to 151.0.7922.72. Detection requires checking the installed Chrome version. Use the command 'dumpsys package com.android.chrome | grep versionName' on Android to verify the version. If the version is below 151.0.7922.72, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on your device or escape the browser sandbox, potentially gaining control over your system. This could lead to data theft, installation of malware, or further compromise of your device.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, or similar standards as it involves a technical flaw in Google Chrome on Android rather than data handling or privacy practices.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome on Android to version 151.0.7922.72 or later to address the use-after-free vulnerability in Bluetooth.
