CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This is an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability in the Easy Store Joomla extension versions 1.0.0 to 2.0.1. It allows attackers to send malicious order parameters that bypass input validation, enabling direct database queries. This can lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data like user credentials and session information stored in the database.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for the presence of the vulnerable Joomla Easy Store extension versions 1.0.0 to 2.0.1. Inspect your Joomla installation for the extension in the /administrator/components/com_easystore directory or via the Joomla admin panel. Look for unauthenticated SQL queries in web server logs that may indicate exploitation attempts.

Impact Analysis

If you use the vulnerable Easy Store extension, attackers could exploit this flaw to read, modify, or delete database contents without authentication. This includes accessing sensitive user data, administrative credentials, and session tokens, potentially leading to full system compromise or data breaches.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal data, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Organizations may face regulatory fines, legal liabilities, and reputational damage due to non-compliance resulting from this breach.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately remove or disable the Easy Store extension versions 1.0.0 to 2.0.1 from your Joomla installation. Update to the latest patched version if available. Ensure all Joomla components and extensions are updated regularly. Review database access logs for suspicious queries and consider resetting user credentials if unauthorized access is suspected.
