Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects the WP Ultimate Review WordPress plugin before version 2.4.4. Unauthenticated users can store specially crafted review content that causes the reviewed page to crash with a fatal error every time it is visited. This leads to a persistent denial of service (DoS) if the plugin's review display settings were never saved.

Detection Guidance

Check if the WP Ultimate Review plugin version is below 2.4.4 by inspecting the plugin files or WordPress admin panel. Look for unexpected review content that may cause fatal errors when pages load.

Impact Analysis

If you use the WP Ultimate Review plugin before version 2.4.4, an attacker could exploit this flaw to make your website pages crash repeatedly. This disrupts access to your site, potentially causing downtime and loss of user trust. The impact is worse if the plugin's display settings were never configured.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with GDPR or HIPAA as it is a denial of service issue in a WordPress plugin. However, persistent DoS could impact availability of services, which may indirectly affect compliance if service downtime violates uptime requirements in regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the WP Ultimate Review plugin to version 2.4.4 or later immediately. Remove any suspicious review content that may have been added by attackers to prevent persistent DoS.
