Description

BlueALSA (bluez-alsa/bluealsad) contains a division-by-zero vulnerability in the LC3plus sink decoder (a2dp-lc3plus.c, a2dp_lc3plus_dec_thread) that allows a Bluetooth-adjacent attacker to crash the daemon by sending a crafted RTP media header with an attacker-controlled frame count field set to zero. Attackers can establish an A2DP source connection with an LC3plus session negotiated against a victim running bluealsad as an A2DP sink and transmit a non-fragmented LC3plus media header with a zero frame count to trigger a SIGFPE in the decoding thread, causing a denial of service on builds compiled with LC3plus support enabled.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-101887 is a division-by-zero vulnerability in BlueALSA's LC3plus sink decoder. An attacker can crash the bluealsad daemon by sending a specially crafted RTP media header with a frame count set to zero. This triggers a SIGFPE error in the decoding thread, causing a denial of service.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your BlueALSA version is prior to commit 1a84465dd860d1be9dcf62339c6273e9e0632dd2. Run: git log --oneline | grep 1a84465 to verify. If the commit is missing, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If you use a vulnerable BlueALSA version with LC3plus support enabled, a nearby attacker could exploit this flaw to crash the bluealsad daemon. This would disrupt audio streaming services on your system, leading to temporary loss of audio functionality.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes a denial of service by crashing the bluealsad daemon, which could disrupt audio services on affected systems. While it does not directly expose or leak data, prolonged service disruption may impact systems handling sensitive information, potentially affecting compliance with availability requirements in standards like HIPAA or GDPR. However, the low severity and limited scope (Bluetooth-adjacent attack) reduce the overall compliance risk.

Mitigation Strategies

Update BlueALSA to the patched commit 1a84465dd860d1be9dcf62339c6273e9e0632dd2 or later. Disable LC3plus support if not needed by recompiling without the feature.
