Executive Summary

CVE-2026-103268 is an authentication bypass vulnerability in Ghost versions before 6.62.0. Suspended staff users can reactivate their accounts by exploiting the self-service password reset feature. This occurs due to missing authorization checks, allowing attackers with suspended credentials to regain active access and restore their original privileges.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check Ghost versions running on your system. Use commands like 'ghost version' or inspect package.json for versions before 6.62.0. Review staff accounts for reactivated suspended users or unexpected privilege changes.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could regain access to suspended accounts, potentially leading to unauthorized actions like data modification, deletion, or exposure. This could result in loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive data managed by Ghost.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access, violating data protection requirements under GDPR and HIPAA. It may result in unauthorized data exposure or modification, leading to non-compliance with access control and audit requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Ghost to version 6.62.0 or later. Review staff accounts for any reactivated suspended users and remove unauthorized access. Monitor for suspicious activity from previously suspended accounts.
