Stored XSS in WPMobile.App WordPress Plugin

Description

The WPMobile.App – Android and iOS App Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'REQUEST_URI (path segment after /android_json/search/)' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 11.84 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires the app's content mode to be configured as 'webview' (i.e., the 'speed' option is not set to '1'), which is a supported and still-shipped mode, though no longer the default.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the WPMobile.App plugin for WordPress. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via the REQUEST_URI parameter in the path segment after /android_json/search/. The scripts execute when users access the infected pages.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to the WPMobile.App plugin for WordPress and involves stored XSS via the REQUEST_URI parameter. Detection requires checking if the plugin is installed and verifying its version. Inspect WordPress admin panels for the plugin and review server logs for suspicious URI patterns like /android_json/search/ with script tags.

Impact Analysis

Attackers can steal user sessions, deface websites, or redirect users to malicious sites. If the app uses 'webview' mode, the injected scripts run in the context of the app, potentially compromising user data or device access.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy). Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the WPMobile.App plugin to the latest version beyond 11.84. If an update is unavailable, disable the plugin or switch the app's content mode from 'webview' to a safer option. Review and sanitize all user inputs in the plugin's configuration.
