Description

ClipBucket v5 through 5.5.3-#197 contains an sql injection vulnerability that allows authenticated users with ad_manager_access permission to inject SQL via the delete parameter in admin_area/ads_manager.php. Attackers can supply time-based blind payloads concatenated into AdsManager::DeleteAd queries to extract user credentials and emails or modify and delete arbitrary records.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-103766 is a time-based blind SQL injection vulnerability in ClipBucket v5 through version 5.5.3-#197. It allows authenticated users with ad_manager_access permission to inject malicious SQL code via the delete parameter in admin_area/ads_manager.php. The vulnerability occurs because user input is directly concatenated into SQL queries without sanitization or parameterized queries.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability in ClipBucket v5, monitor for unusual SQL query patterns or delays in responses. Test the delete parameter in admin_area/ads_manager.php with time-based payloads like 1' OR SLEEP(5)-- - to observe response delays. Check logs for repeated failed SQL queries or unexpected database access patterns.

Impact Analysis

Attackers can exploit this to extract sensitive data like user credentials and emails, modify or delete arbitrary database records, or potentially achieve remote code execution. The vulnerability has a high severity with a CVSS v4 score of 8.6, indicating significant risk to affected systems.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Organizations using affected ClipBucket versions may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to potential data breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update ClipBucket to the patched version via PR #925 or apply input sanitization to the delete parameter in ads_manager.php. Restrict ad_manager_access permissions to trusted users only. Monitor database activity for suspicious queries and consider deploying a web application firewall to block SQL injection attempts.
