Description

The WPC Estimated Delivery Date for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via the 'rule_data' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 4.0.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that execute if they can successfully trick a user into performing an action such as clicking on a link.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue in the WPC Estimated Delivery Date for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress. It affects versions up to and including 4.0.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the 'rule_data' parameter. Attackers can inject malicious scripts into web pages, which execute when a user clicks a crafted link.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability can be detected by checking for reflected XSS attempts in web server logs or by using security tools that monitor for suspicious input parameters. Look for requests containing the 'rule_data' parameter with script tags or unusual payloads.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could trick users into clicking a malicious link, leading to arbitrary script execution in their browser. This could result in session hijacking, defacement, or theft of sensitive data like cookies or login credentials.

Compliance Impact

This XSS vulnerability could expose user data, potentially violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy) by enabling unauthorized access or disclosure of personal information. Compliance may be compromised if user data is compromised through such attacks.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the WPC Estimated Delivery Date for WooCommerce plugin to the latest version. If an update is not available, disable the plugin temporarily. Implement input sanitization and output escaping for the 'rule_data' parameter.
