SQL Injection in YesWiki via Bazar filtertags

Description

YesWiki before 4.6.7 contains an SQL injection vulnerability in the Bazar filtertags action, which wraps unescaped filterN attribute tokens in quotes and concatenates them into a raw tags.value IN (...) clause. Unauthenticated attackers on default installs can save filtertags markup in a page with a trailing-backslash token that breaks quote parity under MySQL backslash escaping. This lets them inject a five-column UNION subquery to read arbitrary table data such as password hashes.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-104457 is a high-severity SQL injection vulnerability in YesWiki versions before 4.6.7. It occurs in the Bazar filtertags action where unescaped filterN parameters are concatenated directly into a raw SQL query without proper neutralization. Attackers can exploit this by injecting malicious SQL code, particularly UNION-based queries, to read sensitive data like password hashes from the database.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your YesWiki instance is running version 4.6.6 or earlier. Look for unusual SQL query patterns in logs, especially UNION-based queries targeting sensitive tables like yeswiki_users. Test the filtertags action with crafted inputs to see if it returns unexpected data.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers on default installations can exploit this flaw to read arbitrary table data such as password hashes. Even authenticated users with page-write permissions can exploit it. The injected data may be rendered in the application, exposing sensitive information. The vulnerability has a CVSS v3.1 score of 8.6 (High).

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data such as password hashes, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (protected health information). Unauthorized data exposure can result in legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade YesWiki to version 4.6.7 or later immediately. If upgrading is not possible, restrict write permissions to trusted users only and disable the filtertags action. Implement strict input validation for filterN parameters and use parameterized queries to prevent SQL injection.
